Parasol Nature Adventures was born from a deep appreciation for Saint Lucia’s natural beauty, cultural richness, and complex historical identity. The inspiration behind the name “Parasol”, the French and Creole word for umbrella speaks to the concept of bringing together diverse yet complementary experiences under one harmonious canopy.
The name is also symbolic: “Para” represents paradise, and “Sol” from soleil is the French and Creole representation for sun, combining to describe Saint Lucia as a “paradise in the sun.”
This captures not just the island’s breathtaking landscapes, but its warmth, resilience, and global reputation for hospitality.
Saint Lucia is often called the “Helen of the West,” a title earned from centuries of colonial contest fought over by the British and French fourteen times. But the island’s historical significance doesn’t end there.
During World War II, Saint Lucia served as a strategic U.S. Navy base from 1940 to 1948, and again during the Cold War (1955–1959), particularly in the tense years of the Cuban Missile Crisis. Remnants of this military presence remain in the form of lookout points, tunnels, and other wartime infrastructure quiet witnesses to a pivotal era in world history.
